The Suffolk Times - Civic Associations Speak with Collective Voice

Updated: Feb 25

We are thrilled to share that the Greenport Civic Association (GCA) was recently featured in The Suffolk Times article, "Civic associations speak with collective voice," published on December 16, 2024.

The article highlights the vital role civic associations play in connecting residents with local governments, preserving community character, and addressing local issues. It emphasizes how these organizations serve as a bridge between individual residents and their municipalities, striving to protect and enhance the quality of life in their communities.

Yvonne Duffy, second vice president of membership for the New Suffolk Civic Association, noted, "A civic association primarily helps to guide a community with communication with both local town government as well as higher up… We are trying to protect our community, get them as much public services that might be available, or making sure that the things that the local government are doing coincides with what the community wants."

The piece also discusses the dynamic nature of civic associations as demographics and priorities shift, highlighting the importance of resident involvement in maintaining the unique character of their communities.

We are honored to be recognized alongside fellow associations and remain committed to fostering community engagement and advocacy in Greenport.
